My name is Katie Jolicoeur and most days you can find me barefoot with messy hair practicing or teaching yoga. I am passionate about holding space for humans to feel and connect with themselves whether it is through yoga, meditation, or honest conversation.Yoga has brought a safe space into my life where I can show up just as I am and that is freedom, not having to be or try to be anything other than what and who I am. I have been teaching yoga for 7 years and have immersed myself in various trainings and styles of yoga. My favourite way to learn is by watching people, how they move, how the practice resonates with them and how we can adapt it based on our needs in that moment. This practice is so much more than making shapes with your body, it’s a way of learning who you really are
I am proud to be a lululemon ambassador in Edmonton, as well as a Here to Be ambassador through lululemon on a national scale. Through the Here to Be ambassadorship they recognize and support the work I do with the Be Free Project. Be Free Project is a not for profit that brings the tools of yoga and meditation to those moving through mental illness or mental health struggles. I founded the Be Free Project because of my own experiences with anxiety and depression, my yoga and meditation practice were one of the tools that supported me, my yoga mat provided me with a safe space to show up. I realized not may people have access to these practices and I wanted to find a way to make them available. We now offer free classes in various places around Edmonton and area, from hospitals, clinics, in patient and out patient programs, schools, and studios. I am proud of the work we do as we continue to grow and show up for our community.
